The Mikmar Full Cheek Snaffle combines the traditional full cheek style bit with the Mikmar double-jointed slanted mouthpiece. This combination provides excellent lateral and vertical flexion. There is little sideward movement of the bit due to the straight bar style cheek piece. This bit offers optimal control with traditional looks. It is to be used with bridle keepers to ensure correct bit position and effectiveness.The unique design of the new Mikmar Snaffle bit unites classic looks with superior results. The traditional style cheek pieces are made from the highest quality stainless steel available and are combined with our Mikmar double-jointed slanted mouthpieces. The lightweight mouthpieces are flat and wide and incorporate a copper roller and a low port. The Mikmar Ergöm Lozenge Pelham
The beautifully crafted Mikmar Erogom Lozenge Pelham unites Mikmars Ergom Lozenge mouthpiece made of “Cupreon” with, stainless steel Pelham cheeks. The cheeks are available in two sizes, four inch and five inch, offering the rider a variation of leverage and style. The Ergom Lozenge mouthpiece has been reduced in size slightly to maximize function and balance of the bit. Pelham bits offer the use of the snaffle or curb rein individually or simultaneously. The Mikmar Combination Bit
Legendary Horseman Frank Evans, founder of the Mikmar Bit Company, designed the Mikmar Combination Bit. It is highly acclaimed worldwide for its versatility, unique design, and excellent results. As the rider applies pressure to the reins, this unique design disperses pressure to the nose, mouth, chin, and poll areas. Frank Evans' goal was to be able to protect a horse's mouth and at the same time get desired results. It sends a clearer signal to the horse, allowing the rider to use a softer hand.

How the combination bit works

The bit operates through both direct action and leverage, with the addition of nose pressure, when desired. It is to be used with a leather curb strap or curb chain, and can be used with or without a Cavesson. There are a variety of options for rein configurations. When attaching a single rein to the nose rope, and the rider applies pressure (pulls) on the reins, it sends a signal simultaneously to the nose, mouth (bars and tongue), chin and poll, instead of to just one focused area. The horse receives pressure to the nose rope and curb strap, through the cheek pieces, just ahead of the mouthpiece. The nose rope applies downward and backward pressure and the curb strap applies upward pressure. This encourages vertical flexion. The wide, mild mouthpiece immediately following, rotates slightly and slowly downward and back to apply pressure over the tongue and bars. The width of the mouthpiece gives the horse an advanced signal that there is an incoming request. The bit also incorporates a copper roller, which stimulates saliva production, and keeps a nervous or “busy- mouthed” horse pacified. Also, it discourages the horse from putting the tongue over the bit.

Other rein configurations are attaching a single rein to the cheek pieces upper rein slot for direct pressure, similar to that of a snaffle, or to the lower rein slot for the function of a leverage bit, or to the nose rope for divided pressure. Double reins may also be used in any combination of the three rein positions. The most popular rein configuration is attaching one rein to the nose rope (for divided pressure) and one rein to the upper or lower slot on the cheek piece.
The Mikmar Medium Shank Combination Bit offers the same function and options as the Mikmar Combination Bit, but provides more leverage due to its longer shank. The shank is 1-3/4 inches longer than the standard Combination Bit. As the rider applies pressure to the reins, it sends a stronger signal to the nose, mouth (bars and tongue), chin, and poll areas. The greater pressure results in more control for those riders desiring it.

The Mikmar Short Shank Combination Bit

The Mikmar Short Shank provides less leverage than the Mikmar Combination Bit and does not have the nose rope. The Mikmar Short Shank Bit offers two areas for rein placement on the cheek piece: the upper rein slot giving you more direct pressure, similar to that of a Snaffle, and the lower rein slot giving you the function of a leverage bit, applying pressure to the mouth (bars and tongue), chin and poll areas, to encourage vertical flexion. The Mikmar Short Shank is designed to be used with double reins or a single rein alone, or a single rein with a converter. The Mikmar Short Shank provides the rider excellent communication and versatility.

The Mikmar Flexion Combo is a new innovative design, based on the original Mikmar Combination Bit. Like the original, it disperses pressure to the nose, mouth, chin and poll areas and offers three areas for rein placement. However, the new Flexion Combo offers swiveling cheek pieces that function independently, with fixed purchases to ensure a steady bridle connection. The moveable cheek action aids in lifting each side of the horses shoulders and frame separately, it is excellent for achieving balance, both vertical and lateral flexion and control.
